versus

our microwave door mysteriously opened the other night all on it's own and decided it had had enough.

fortunately we are renters, so we were able to replace the appliance at no charge to us.
we happily picked out a new microwave (ps-i was shocked at how expensive over-the-range microwaves are!)

day 1: we faced our first battle removing the old microwave. of course when i say we i mean mark. we got an f.

day 2: with some unnecessary cabinet moving and some very needed help from karen and clay, the old was finally removed to make way for the new. brad was busy putting grace to bed and i was wishing i could be a little fly on the wall to watch grace all happy and snuggled up with her 'gampabrad'.

day 3: clay returned to finish the job. good thing mark and clay have so many muscles (probably due to the nutella bagel snacks they ate to keep their strength up) they finally got the new microwave up and bolted in tight.

there was some mild cheering and pats on the back. victory.

until mark tried to open the door and we realized that there wasn't enough clearance for it to open. seriously.

this whole process has been such a pain that we actually had a conversation about how badly we even needed the door to open all the way. i mean, we could just reheat things in tall, narrow glasses, right?

we have problems like that all the time. my husband can do it, but it takes him forEVER the first time. like when he had to replace our garbage disposal. spent about 7 hours doing it, then it leaked. my dad came up and re-installed it in about five minutes. seriously. same thing with our leaky toilet. it ran constantly, so my husband replaced all the stuff in the tank. took him several hours over the course of many days. still leaked. my dad came up and fixed it in about 4.2 seconds (all he had to do was twist a screw). why can't we all be engineers?!
