america, america ...

grace in her patriotic crown getting ready for the big show.
this is how well the fireworks were received by our two pumpkins. maybe not their favorite part of the evening. Surprisingly they wanted to stay outside, just not look or listen.
viv wanted to be in the bike parade. i love her sweet little profile and how she's standing on her tippy toes.
i wanted to make sure and document our annual fourth celebration. we meet at my aunt & uncle's home which is just over the county line making fireworks legal ... yay for roseville!
i love the classy nature of this scene. we start out with an awesome bbq dinner, swimming, and games. then everyone sets up their blankets and lawn chairs on the side of the road. small fireworks get set off on the ground and the big ones get ignited at the top of the ladder. note the bucket of water and extinguisher ready just in case. what a great holiday.

while i was baking earlier in the day i had mark's favorite music on (country, the cheesy 'not really country' kind) and the star spangled banner came on. i cried right there in the kitchen as i listened to the last verse. how blessed we are to live in this beautiful land.

Oh, thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust":
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

That looks very much like my fourth, the street and water and everything. Such a fun holiday--although my kids loved the loud noises and fireworks. The picture of Viv is the cutest! You need should print and frame it.

That verse makes me cry too. I have a friend who told me the other day that she hates the Star Spangled Banner and that America the Beautiful should be our national anthem. I was shocked! I love it. Hurray for America.
