i'm one!
viv was born in the year of the tiger, so it only seemed right that she have a circus party with a tiger cake.
as though she knew tonight we would celebrate, viv napped this afternoon for over three hours. in her entire year of existence she has never done this. mommy likes.
we ate, swam, played with presents, visited with people we love, and reminisced over the past year.

viv was a little timid at first, but quickly got over that.
viv's audience as she opened her gifts.
viv took her first steps last sunday. i love how happy she is when she lets go and wobbles towards me.
she has 6 sharp chompers and enjoys using them. if you hold her in front of you she'll start chanting, "row, row, row" until you play 'row, row, row your boat' with her.
she seems to take great joy in growling like a tiger and shrieking like something terrible (i'm not sure there is a creature alive that makes such an ear piercing sound). the tiger growl is usually a good sign, the shrieking usually means she's not getting exactly what she wants when she wants it. yikes.
she is quick to smile at everyone.
she is fiercely independent until i try to walk out of the room and then she quickly becomes my shadow.
viv follows grace around everywhere and grace is incredibly good and patient with her.

Looks like the party was a success. I love the first pic with her little pointer finger up. Perfect for her birthday. And aren't 3 hour naps great? Ayla was asleep for almost 4 hours and Harrison was close to 3 today. It was a great day!
oh, it turned out lovely! so glad you finally got to have the circus party. and i bet the weather was perfect. can'e believe that baby is already one! so nice to see jared out with everybody.
that party looks amazing! when we stopped by your house that morning, it seemed like it would be much more low-key.... that was a full-on party!! i love all the pics, you're a great photographer too. :)
